This theology lecture focuses on what Scripture teaches about life after death and the events leading up to Christ’s return. Students explore the doctrine of the intermediate state, learning that believers who die are immediately in the presence of Christ, while unbelievers enter a place of conscious torment, both awaiting final resurrection and judgment.
Using passages from Luke, Philippians, Corinthians, and Revelation, the lecture rejects ideas such as soul sleep and purgatory, affirming instead the biblical teaching of conscious existence after death. The class also addresses common cultural misconceptions about hell and Satan, emphasizing that Satan is not the ruler of hell but will himself be judged and punished.
Students then examine what the Bible means by the last days, discovering that Scripture teaches the last days began with Christ’s first coming and continue until His return. This truth calls believers to urgency, holiness, and perseverance in the present.
The lecture concludes by introducing the Day of the Lord, a major biblical theme describing a future period of judgment and salvation. Drawing from Joel, Daniel, the Gospels, and Revelation, students begin to see how Scripture points to a coming time of great distress before Christ’s return and ultimate victory.
