This theology lecture begins by showing how Scripture and theology shape a Christian worldview. Students are reminded that theology is not merely academic, but foundational for how believers interpret all of life. Through examples such as Scripture memorization and worldview formation, the class highlights why biblical truth must shape thinking, values, and decisions.
The lecture then turns to the doctrine of the church. Students explore why the church is essential to the Christian life, not as a building, but as a gathered people united by the gospel. Through personal stories and discussion, the class highlights the beauty of the church’s diversity, bringing together people of different ages, cultures, and backgrounds through faith in Christ.
Key questions are addressed, including whether someone can claim to love Jesus while rejecting the church, and what biblical elements must be present for a gathering to be considered a true church. Scripture, worship, preaching, leadership, ordinances, and regular assembly are all discussed as essential components of church life.
The lecture also introduces major theological frameworks for understanding the relationship between Israel and the church, explaining why these distinctions matter for interpreting the Bible correctly. Students are encouraged to read the Old Testament through the lens of the New Testament, following the example of the apostles.
By the end of the class, students gain a clearer understanding of the church as God’s design for displaying the gospel to the world and for shaping believers into mature disciples of Christ.
