Cedarville Stories Podcast: Professor Connects Pharmacy and Family

by Clem Boyd, Communication Content Manager

Family and pharmacy may not seem a likely link, but for Justin Cole it was the norm. Justin is an assistant professor of pharmacy practice and director of Cedarville’s Center for Pharmacy Innovation. But his connection with health care and the world of pharmacists goes back to family reunions as a kid, when he’d spend time with aunts and uncles in the profession. He loved hearing about their fulfilling and satisfying careers.

When Justin attended Ohio Northern University as a pharmacy student, he had another link between family and pharmacy. As a member of a Christian student organization, he spent time with Marc Sweeney, one of his ONU professors and the club advisor, who is now Dean of Cedarville’s school of pharmacy. Justin learned from Marc as a mentor, and had the chance to observe him as a husband and a dad as well.

Even in his role as a professor, Justin is connecting with families. Doing research with colleague Aleda Chen, they are helping health care providers understand the cultural and religious beliefs that affect family decisions about vaccinations. Beyond all this, Justin is a committed husband, dad, and follower of Jesus, who loves the family of God. He truly is a family pharmacist.
