General Information

Cost

Course fee is $1200.

Financial Aid is not available. The course fee is not eligible for tuition remission.

This fee includes the cost of the course. Students may purchase their textbook and workbook at the University Bookstore. Students will be responsible for the cost of the required polo ($25) and National Registry Exam.

Course Description

The Cedarville University EMS Education Program was developed to meet the needs of the Cedarville University EMS squad, fire departments, and EMS departments who are providing skilled emergency medical care to the communities they serve. Students receive valuable education through in-class sessions and experience real life situations during clinical hours and simulations. The program is based upon the National Standard Curriculum Advanced EMT, prepared by the U.S. Department of Transportation. This course includes 200 hours of didactic instruction and laboratory practice, and as well as the opportunity for a variety of clinical experiences in various settings. After completion and the obtaining of a State Advanced EMT certification, students will be qualified to provide emergent care in a pre-hospital setting to their level of certification. Students enrolled at Cedarville University may be awarded three semester hours toward general electives by the Registrar's Office when the certificate is presented.

Requirements

  1. Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
  2. Be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English. Must have a TOEFL score of 79 on the internet-based test if English is not the student's primary language.
  3. Have no previous felony convictions.
  4. Be at least 18 years of age at the end of the course, in accordance with OAC 4765-8-01.
  5. Be able to lift 50 pounds.
  6. Be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
  7. Any student carrying over 16 hours must have their advisor's signature on the application form.
  8. A physical must be completed prior to the start of class including two MMR or titer, two Varicella or titer, two-step TB test, current flu shot, and the Hepatitis B series of shots. The EMS Education Health History and Physical form must be used to report this information. (see "After Applying") Any student that fails to complete this by the first day of class will be automatically dismissed from the program.
  9. A background check must be completed prior to the start of class through Cedarville University's Campus Safety office (see "After Applying).
  10. Complete a NREMT EMT program and registered in Ohio.

A student cannot be kept from taking the course because of academic concerns, however the student may receive the recommendation that he/she not take the course at this time. It is highly advisable that the student take this recommendation seriously.

Registration

In addition to registering online, students must complete an application which is required by the State (see link below). The application may be completed, saved to a file, and sent by email or it may be printed and mailed to:

Enrollment will remain open until the registration deadline, when payment is due. Any payments after this deadline will incur a $35 late fee.

No refunds will be issued after the registration deadline. If a student wishes to withdraw, they must do so no later than one week before the class begins, in which the course fee (minus a $35 processing fee) will be refunded.

A confirmation of the class meeting time and room location will be emailed to the student the week before the class begins. The course fee must be paid by the first day of class. A student will not be permitted to begin classes if the course fee is not paid.

There will be no course fee refund after class has been in session for 16 class hours. A ten percent administrative fee will be deducted from the remaining course fee. Students dismissed from the program will forfeit all money paid.

Course Application

After Applying

Once you have been accepted into the program, you will need the following:

Medical Paperwork

Must be reported on the EMS physical form. Due on the registration deadline.

1. current physical and two step TB test - no more than 6 months old when class begins
2. flu shot - current for the school year
3. 2 MMR or titer
4. 2 Varicella or titer
5. Hepatitis B series

Physicals are available to full time CU students by appointment at University Medical Services. Contact them to set up an appointment. If a student chooses to use their own physician, they must have the EMS physical form completed by their physician.

Students will be required to submit proof of health insurance by the registration deadline.

Ohio background check

The background check must be scheduled no later than the registration deadline.

  • A prior Ohio BCI background check will be acceptable if the EMS student has been a member of good standing of a fire or EMS agency and has had a BCI background check within one year of beginning clinicals. 
  • A resident of Ohio for at least 5 years - need the BCI check ($40) 
  • Not a resident of Ohio for at least 5 years - need the BCI and FBI check ($65) 

EMS students are required to use Campus Safety to obtain background checks. Call to schedule an appointment (937-766-7992).

Your medical information and background check must be in our office by the registration deadline or your registration will be canceled and your money refunded. The only exception is for the flu shot during fall semester. In that case, the due date for the flu shot will be announced in class.

Required supplies
