Cedarville University’s chapter of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) will be helping at the Community Health Foundation (CHF) Health Expo on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Hollenbeck Bayley Center in Springfield. The event is from 4-6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

“The health expo can influence the community in a positive way by allowing participants to be actively involved in their own health care,” explained Zach Krauss, SNPhA historian and first-year professional pharmacy student from Temple, Texas. “I'm excited because it shows the community that pharmacists and pharmacy students truly care about the community and the people within it, and that we care about much more than just handing them their medications.”

CHF is a nonprofit organization that seeks to promote health and wellness and to advocate for quality health care through grant making and education. At the Health Expo, CHF will provide individual health screenings, a mental wellness room, developmental screenings for children, flu and pneumonia shots and breast cancer screenings.

“One of SNPhA's goals is to reach out to and serve underserved communities,” said Andrea Adegoke, SNPhA’s president and third-year professional pharmacy major from Raleigh, North Carolina. “SNPhA helps with the expo every year because it is the best way to reach out to a lot of underserved people.”

SNPhA will provide blood pressure and blood glucose readings. They will also review attendees’ medication lists to make sure patients are receiving the correct medication for their health issues.

“Participating at the health expo will give me the opportunity to help those who are curious about their health status, but also those who would not have been able to access this care due to lack of insurance,” said Adegoke. “This opportunity is a way for me to share and show the love of Christ to the community by delivering the best care to everyone I serve.”
