Strings Guest Artist Masterclass and Brahms Concert: Jonathan Lee - September 2, 2022

Strings Guest Artist Masterclass and Brahms Concert: Jonathan Lee

September 2, 2022 from 3:00 p.m.

The Department of Music & Worship will host a strings guest artist masterclass and Brahms Concert.

A cello masterclass will be given by Dayton Philharmonic Principal Cellist Jonathan Lee to our string students on Friday, September 2nd, from 3pm to 4:30pm in the Recital Hall. Jonathan performs regularly with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Opera and has appeared with the New Mexico Philharmonic and Kentucky Symphony Orchestras. He has performed in many of the major concert halls of the world including Kennedy Center, Suntory Hall, Kitara Hall, Sydney Opera House, Mozarteum, and Haydn Hall. An avid chamber musician, he has performed on numerous concert series and music festivals including the Pacific Music Festival and the National Orchestra Institute (NOI). He is also a founding member and Artistic Director of the Immaculata Chamber Music Series.

The concert will feature the wonderful and meaningful music of Johannes Brahms. The program will include two staples of Brahms’ Chamber Music Literature: the "Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 3 Op. 108" and the "Piano Quintet in F minor Op. 34." "The Violin Sonata No. 3" in D minor is the last of the violin sonatas and the only one that contains four movements. It is very agitated and romantic in nature. The Piano Quintet is considered the crown of his chamber music with a masterful handling of the piano against the strings (two violins, viola and cello). The concert will be in the CU Recital Hall on Friday, September 2nd at 7pm.

These events are free and open to the public.
