Andrew Klein, a 2005 graduate of Cedarville University and founder of Smart Barn, a product line that revolutionizes the way farmers manage their livestock farms, has been awarded the Verizon Powerful Answers Award.
“This is huge for Smart Barn,” said Klein. “We’re incredibly fortunate to be winners in this competition and Verizon’s funding is going to help us reach more farmers and take Smart Barn to the next level.”
The Verizon Powerful Answers Award, now in its third year, was developed by Verizon to find new technologies that can help solve some of the world’s biggest problems.
Inefficiency is widespread on farms today, with many farmers still tracking their production using pen and paper. The Smart Barn app and wireless sensors have completely changed this process, allowing farmers to obtain, store, and track data seamlessly.
Now with Smart Barn farmers know that their animals are safe, comfortable, and always have the right amount of food and water.
Verizon announced on November 4 that Smart Barn was among the Powerful Answers 2015 winners, and will receive an award worth at least $250,000.
During the award ceremony, which will occur on December 9 in San Francisco, the Smart Barn team will learn what prize amount they will receive.
This year’s Powerful Answers Award contest consists of three categories, with a top prize of $1 million up for grabs in each category.
One first runner-up and two second runner ups in each category will receive $500,000 and $250,000 prizes, respectively, for a total of $6 million awarded by Verizon.
