Emma Villanueva, a junior intercultural studies major from Archbold, Ohio, has been selected to receive a United Parcel Service (UPS) Scholarship for the 2015-16 academic year.
The scholarship for $2,425 is provided through the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC), Ohio’s division of the Council for Independent Colleges (CIC).
“I love being at Cedarville University and I love learning,” said Villanueva. “The scholarship has been a great blessing to help me keep doing both those things.”
Villanueva, a 2013 graduate of Archbold High School, is also a regular radio personality on Resound Radio, Cedarville’s student-run radio station. She hosts “Primetime with Emma and Amy” every Tuesday through Friday night from 9-11 p.m..
Villanueva has been on the dean’s list each of her four semesters at Cedarville. To be on the dean’s list, student must achieve a 3.5 GPA for the semester while taking at least 12 credit hours.
Once she graduates in December 2017, Villanueva plans to serve in the mission field. “My heart is to work with refugees, loving and caring for them like my own family and sharing true joy and freedom that comes from Christ,” said Villanueva.
Each year, OFIC partners with the UPS Foundation to distribute funding of the UPS Scholarship.
Through this year’s program, OFIC awarded $83,300 in UPS Scholarships to 34 high-achieving, low-income students at private institutions across Ohio and over 600 students nationwide. Since 1985, over $50 million has been awarded in scholarships.
