The IPC is organized by the WPTA and the World Piano Conference (WPC), along with the Alink-Argerich Foundation. The WPTA IPC is open to pianists of all ages and of all nationalities.
Mortenson is primarily a performer and teacher of classical and jazz piano; however, he also performs and teaches Irish and American roots music, playing mandolin, Irish flute, Irish button accordion, Uilleann pipes and Irish whistle. He created America's only college-level traditional Irish music session class.
In September 2015 Mortensen was selected for the Fulbright Specialist Roster by the U.S. Department of State. Over the next five years, the Fulbright Specialist program will sponsor him to perform and teach at universities internationally.
Mortensen holds a national certification in piano through the Music Teachers National Association and is endorsed as an Ohio Artist on Tour through the Ohio Arts Council. He was recently named an Excellence in Education honoree by Ohio Magazine.
