This spring Cedarville University Continuing Education will be hosting myriad courses for students, faculty and the community. The offerings consist of practical, high caliber courses to further professional development and achieve certification. Students can register online at the Cedarville University Center for Lifelong Learning.

Excel@Reading - This course trains students to use a variety of survey, reading and self-pace techniques. The goal of the course is to extend reading-rate ranges to increase comprehension and retention. Students will learn to read quickly while critically evaluating the material and maintaining a clear grasp of the ideas in the text. The classes will be offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings from January 26 to March 1. The course will cost $99 plus textbook. Registration closes on January 20.

Practical French - Students will learn simple phrases to use in common situations, such as ordering in a cafe, finding the train station or a restaurant, asking directions or for help, addressing salespersons and greeting people politely. The course will use the text, dialogues with videos and some views of the sights in France. The classes will be offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings from February 9 to March 22. The course will cost $125 plus textbook. Registration closes on February 2.

American Heart Association (AHA) Skills Test - The AHA skills sessions will be offered January 30, 2016. Registrants will be required to complete online training before attending and will need to bring the certificate of completion. According to the AHA, students are allowed up to 60 days after completing the online part of the course to complete the skills session. Upon successful completion of all three parts, an AHA Course Completion card will be issued. This card is valid for two years. The test will be on January 25, 2016 and will cost $15. Registration closes on January 25.

EMT- The course includes didactic instruction, laboratory practice and clinical experience in a variety of settings. Lecture and laboratory experiences are coordinated with clinical experiences. Each student is expected to complete 20 hours of clinicals in addition to classroom instruction. The EMS education training courses give students fundamental skills and intense training to prepare them for the National Registry Exam. After completing the course and passing the NRE, students will be qualified to provide emergency care in a pre-hospital setting to their level of certification. Students enrolled at Cedarville may be awarded three semester hours each toward general electives for EMT by the registrar's office when the certificate is presented. Classes will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays along with an occasional Saturday from January 19 to April 26. The course will cost $800 plus textbook. Registration is currently available on a waitlist only.

Heartsaver AED- The American Heart Association Heartsaver AED Course is designed to prepare people to provide CPR and use AEDs in a timely and effective manner. This course is for people with limited or no medical training. Students must be at least 12 years old to participate. A Heartsaver AED completion card will be issued that is valid for two years.
