Dual Enrollment Program Sees Continued Growth

by Michaela Carpenter, Public Relations Writer

Finding ways to reduce college costs is a major reason why high school students are taking college courses through Cedarville University’s Dual Enrollment program. And there’s no reason to think this trend will decrease as the costs of higher education continue to rise.

Cedarville’s Dual Enrollment enrollment has increased 26 percent from spring 2016. Parents of high school students recognize this is a great way to reduce college costs while still allowing their child to pursue a high quality Christian education. The university’s unique new approach to dual credit courses, which began in January with its general psychology course, and the increase of financial aid through Ohio’s College Credit Plus program are two main reasons for Cedarville’s rapid growth. The psychology course is instructed by a Cedarville University professor and facilitated by high school teachers in the classroom, allowing student to earn high school and college credits simultaneously.

With Cedarville’s participation in Ohio’s College Credit Plus option, students from the Buckeye state can take courses at no charge.

Even for non-Ohio students, courses only cost $175 per credit hour, a significant savings off regular tuition costs. Students also benefit from learning time management and communication skills as they complete each college-level course.

“It’s just a really great opportunity for students who are academically prepared,” Paula Kordic, coordinator of Dual Enrollment, said. “They gain not only college credit but continue to grow in their ability to think critically and express themselves in writing. This helps them to keep growing academically.”

Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,760 undergraduate, graduate, and online students in more than 100 areas of study. Founded in 1887, Cedarville is recognized nationally for its authentic Christian community, rigorous academic programs, strong graduation and retention rates, accredited professional and health science offerings, and leading student satisfaction ratings.
