As Western culture continues to shed religion and embrace secular ideals, Christians are looking for opportunities to sharpen their faith as they live in an ever-increasing minority. Finding Truth, an apologetics conference coming to Cedarville University on February 16, aims to equip attendees with the tools to practically defend that faith and share the Gospel in a post-truth world.
Dr. Dan DeWitt, director for the Center for Biblical Apologetics and Public Christianity at Cedarville University, organized the conference as a way to highlight the importance of defending one’s faith.
“I do not think we can fully love our Muslim, atheist or Mormon neighbor if we are not thinking through how we can explain the Gospel to them and answer their questions through apologetics,” said DeWitt.
Co-sponsored by Crossings Ministries and the North American Mission Board, the event will feature talks from DeWitt and best-selling apologetics author Nancy Pearcey, 5-10 breakout sessions and a panel discussion on maintaining faith in secular environments with speakers from Harvard, Yale and Oxford Universities.
“Pearcey and her book ‘Finding Truth’ deeply impacted me by opening my eyes to a big vision of God and of the Gospel,” DeWitt said. A copy of Pearcey’s book will be included with each paid registration fee. Cost of attendance is $20 for general attendees, $10 for Cedarville students and $10 for evening plenary sessions only, and those who haven't yet registered can do so at the door.
The conference is the largest of a number of events DeWitt planned for the 2016-17 academic year through Cedarville’s new Center for Biblical Apologetics and Public Christianity. DeWitt’s goal is to serve students, local churches and the broader culture by wrestling with hot-button issues within the Christian faith. During the fall 2016 semester, DeWitt led two talk-back sessions discussing the goodness and rationality of Christianity, and noted apologist Sam Allberry, associate minister of St. Mary's Church in Berkshire, United Kingdom, led a seminar addressing the biblical view of sexual identity.
