On Your Mark: Operation Heart 5K on Saturday

by Nicole Hackett, Student Public Relations Writer

The annual Operation Heart 5K will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at 9 a.m. on Cedarville’s Elvin R. King Cross Country Course. This year the proceeds will help fund local senior citizen gym memberships at Cedarville University’s fitness center.

Same-day registration starts at 8:30 a.m. at the cross country course and is $20, cash only, with no shirt included.

Operation Heart is an initiative of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), which advocates for healthy hearts. It is co-chaired by Caraline Watkins and Brianne Potter, who are second year Cedarville profession pharmacy students.

Along with sponsoring gym memberships, Operation Heart will team up with other APhA-ASP initiatives to coordinate free health screenings. Last year, a screening was set up at Bridges of Hope, a homeless shelter in Xenia, Ohio, located in the former Simon Kenton Elementary School.
