2017 Fall Group Exercise Class Descriptions

Kick-Boxing

This class will meet once a week on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. The class will consist of warm-ups and a 45 minute kickboxing session. Kickboxing is a class where participants will follow instructor led combinations to be performed on a heavy bag while keeping to the tempo of the music. Anyone wishing to take this class will need hand/wrist wraps as to not injure their hands.

Beginners Martial Arts

This is an entry level martial arts class that will place a focus on martial arts centered workouts and basic technique. The class will be held twice a week and will be structured like a real martial arts school without the formalities of a rank system. Some things you can expect to learn are self-defense, basic kicks and punches, forms, and proper fighting technique. Those with prior martial arts experience are welcomed and encouraged to participate.

ReFit

The goal of ReFit is to have a unique fitness experience, build community, and make an impact on people’s lives. The heart is more than a muscle and a person is more than a body! This revolutionary experience is not just for the fit, it’s also for the willing of heart. This class is for everybody, male and female. ReFit is a similar workout to Zumba but with popular music. It focuses on developing the muscles, strengthening the heart and building community!

Spin Class with Jenna

Spin class provides a fun, hour-long cardiovascular workout that includes strength, core and stamina training all while riding along to upbeat music. No prior experience necessary: all are encouraged and more than welcome to come! Each class will be limited to 16 riders based on the number of bikes we have available.

Beginner Swing Dance Class (Tuesdays, 5:20–6:20 p.m.)

Great introductory class into the exciting world of East Coast swing dancing! For this beginner class, we will focus on teaching the basic fundamentals and ground-work of swing dancing. All are welcome to attend. The class has an open-door policy with no requirements other than a wearing a pair of non-marking shoes and desiring to have fun!

Intermediate Swing Dance Class (Fridays, 5:20–6:20 p.m.)

This is the next level class of East Coast swing dancing that we love to offer! For this intermediate class we will focus on teaching advanced movements of swing dancing, including aerials, and show how to integrate such advanced skills into swing dancing. All are welcome to attend. The class has an open-door policy with no requirements other than wearing a pair of non-marking shoes and desiring to have fun!

Recommended for those who have learned the basic fundamentals from the beginner class or who have prior experience, those capable of lifting and carrying a partner (for the guys), and those wishing to extend their swing dancing abilities.

STRONG by Zumba

STRONG by Zumba is a High Intensity Interval Training class using more traditional fitness moves in a more athletic, condition-style workout. You use your own body weight as resistance to achieve muscle definition.

STRONG combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. In this one-hour class you will burn calories while toning arms, legs, abs and glutes. Plyometric or explosive moves like high knees, burpees, and jumping jacks are interchanged in isometric moves like lunges, squats, and kickboxing.

Zumba (Women-only class)

Love dancing? Love music? Zumba class is an exercise class in disguise and is made just for you! The class will give you a total workout by combining fitness elements such as cardio, flexibility/balance, muscle conditioning, and a boost of energy to help you get through those last few hours of studying. Zumba is a dance class that is centered on Latin music with routines created to make it so fun you don't even feel the calories melting off. As we say, we take the “work” out of workout by mixing the intensity levels throughout the class in a dance fitness party style.
