This event, which takes place from December 6-10 in New Orleans, also hosts the national residency showcase that allows pharmacy students to meet with potential residency sites before applying.
The ASHP is a national professional organization composed of pharmacists, student pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, with more than 40,000 members across the country.
Melody Hartzler, Pharm.D., assistant professor of pharmacy practice, is among the expert presenters at the event. She will partner with Kristi W. Kelley, Pharm.D., associate clinical professor at Auburn University, to present “Individualizing Therapy for Patients with Type 2 Diabetes.”
The two-hour presentation will teach pharmacy professionals how to customize management of type 2 diabetic patients through oral and injectable anti-diabetics or a combination of these agents with insulin.
“I have loved being involved with ASHP,” Hartzler said. “The organization and this particular meeting provides me with a great opportunity to network with colleagues across the country who are working to improve their practices and clinical skills.”
The session is one of three sessions during the three-day conference that will allow professional pharmacists to receive up to six hours of Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP) and/or Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (CGP) recertification credit.
“I am honored to be able to speak at the meeting this year,” Hartzler said. “I am excited that what I am doing in my practice may help other pharmacists develop their skills and ultimately improve patient care.”
