Sullivan Named Ohio's CMDA Representative

by Public Relations Staff

Dennis Sullivan, M.D., professor of pharmacy practice and director of the Center for Bioethics at Cedarville University, has been named Ohio’s representative to the national board of the Christian Medical & Dental Association (CMDA).

CMDA represents 5,000 health care professionals in Ohio and 16,000 nationwide. Sullivan will be responsible for presenting on ethical topics throughout the region as well as communicating medical news regarding Ohio.

“I’ve always been interested in articulating my Christian faith within the field of medicine,” said Sullivan. “It’s an honor to enter the conversation of medical ethics with a Christian voice with CMDA.”

This past year Sullivan presented at the 2015 CMDA National Conference on the ethics of physician-assisted suicide.

CMDA provides moral guidance on scientific issues surrounding the health care industry, focusing on the rights of the unborn and religious freedom in medical practice. The organization also equips medical missionaries and provides health care for the poor.

“CMDA helps shape what medicine should become ethically. The mission of CMDA and Cedarville University are closely aligned,” said Sullivan. “This will be a good move for the Cedarville University School of Pharmacy, as we want to serve alongside CMDA for the kingdom of God in medical practice.”

Cedarville’s school of pharmacy will graduate its first class of Doctor of Pharmacy students in May. The university’s relationship with CMDA will help provide students with experience and employment within hospitals, pharmacies and research laboratories.

“We’re always looking for new experiential locations for our students to go and observe health care professionals,” said Sullivan “I’m incredibly proud how our first graduates are developing. They will have excellent job prospects.”
