Business Dinner Invites "Shark Tank" Inspiration

by Kathryn Sill, Public Relations Writer

Students from Cedarville University’s School of Pharmacy will get the chance to impress others with their business acumen during a business etiquette dinner on Thursday, April 21 sponsored by Meijer Pharmacy.

The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. in the Stevens Student Center event rooms and will be followed by a Shark Tank competition. Students will participate in teams of five to present a two-minute presentation that provides a solution to a current prescription drug problem in the state of Ohio.

The contestants will be judged by professional pharmacists and administrators from Meijer Pharmacy, along with Cedarville faculty and staff. Each team will also have one vote, but cannot vote for its own proposal.

This event is open to third-year professional students only as part of a required component of their business and leadership course, where students have developed skills pertaining to business leadership.

“Through classroom instruction and hands-on experiences, students are able to develop skills like business negotiation, developing a business plan and providing innovative solutions to systems problems,” said Ginger Cameron, Ph.D., assistant professor of pharmacy. “This event gives them an opportunity to put much of that information into practice.”

There is no prize for the winning team, but each team will receive a grade based on their performance and the feedback from judges. The event will also serve as a way for students to network with industry professionals from Meijer.

“Pharmacy is a field that really stresses the importance of networking with other professionals,” said Cameron. “This event will help students practice their networking skills as they work to build relationships with industry professionals.”
