Dr. Ginger Cameron, assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Cedarville University, will speak at this year’s annual Global Missions Health Conference November 9-11 at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY.
Cameron will present on “Public Health Solutions to the Current Opioid Crisis.” Her breakout session will equip attendees with evidence-based plans for approaching opioid abuse in clinical and community settings.
Forty-seven first-year professional student-pharmacists from Cedarville will also attend the conference, engaging with thousands of professionals interested in health care missions.
“This conference sets the stage for our first year students to hear stories of faith and medicine from many who have been serving the underserved all across the world”, said Dr. Thad Franz, vice chair of experiential programs. “My hope for our students is that they use this time to dream big and be open to how pharmacy knowledge and skills can be used to help people receive care and hear about the hope that changes lives.”
The conference includes a variety of speakers, breakout sessions and exhibitors that share and support medical missions opportunities, and it is an excellent networking opportunity for students who want to serve in medical missions.
"This conference really put my education into perspective,” said third-year pharmacy student Myriam Shaw, who attended the conference in 2015. “I learned how people are using their medical skills to serve communities worldwide. I also enjoyed hearing firsthand updates from medical personnel working in the field in different, often hostile, situations."
“This event supports the school of pharmacy's vision to develop pharmacists who are caring, empathetic followers of Christ and provide an exceptional level of pharmacy practice to improve the primary health care of patients locally, nationally and internationally,” added Cindy Burban, director of community engagement for the school of pharmacy.
