SNPhA chapter wins awards at national convention

by Natalia Kirychuk, Public Relations Writer

After only existing one full year, Cedarville University’s Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) chapter brought home several awards from the SNPhA National Convention in Las Vegas late this past summer.

With seven School of Pharmacy students at the convention, the university won the National Scrapbook Competition. Students were presented a scholarship and the Rite Aid Community Leader of the Year Award.

Maame Debrah-Pinamang, class of 2019 pharmacy student and president of Cedarville’s SNPhA chapter, won a scholarship and was nominated for Chapter President of the Year. James Baffoe, class of 2019 pharmacy student, won the Rite Aid Community Leader of the Year Award.

Cedarville’s chapter was also nominated for Chapter of the Year in the medium-size chapter category.

“For our chapter to be nominated for the chapter of the year award means that we're succeeding in what we love to do: serving the underserved,” said Debrah-Pinamang. “Being as new as we are, the nomination alone is an honor. We truly love serving the underserved and being recognized as nominees for one of the highest awards in the SNPhA organization.”

“To represent our school, organization, and profession in a positive light is a blessing and an honor.”

“The fact that Cedarville's SNPhA chapter was nominated for this national award after the first year as a chapter is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the student leaders of SNPhA,” said Dr. Justin Cole, assistant professor of pharmacy and vice chair of pharmacy practice. “The mission of SNPhA focuses on promoting minority representation in pharmacy and caring for underserved populations. This nomination confirms how Cedarville pharmacy students are serving the underserved with excellence and Christlike compassion.”
