CU welcomes new faculty members

Cedarville University welcomed 16 new faculty members in 10 different departments for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Art, Design and Theatre

Zac Benson, M.A., assistant professor of studio art
Benson is an international artist who has had his artwork shown in Taiwan, Bulgaria and throughout the United States. His public commissions include Australia, California, New York and Washington, D.C. He graduated with an M.F.A. in studio art from the University of Maryland in 2017.

Dawn Schluetz, Ph.D., assistant professor of theatre
Schluetz recently received her Ph.D. at Texas Tech University in fine arts - theater. She received an M.A. in dramatic production from Bob Jones University and an M.A. in theater from Bowling Green State University.


Biblical and Theological Studies

Matthew Bennett, instructor of missions and theology
Bennett is pursuing a Ph.D. in applied theology: missiology from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his family recently relocated from the Middle East, where they lived for the last seven years.

Michael McKay, Ph.D. assistant professor of biblical theology
McKay earned his doctoral degree in biblical studies from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as a trainer with New Tribes Mission for nine years.


Business Administration

Paul Schloemer, Ph.D., professor of accounting
Schloemer received his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in 1991 and has taught accounting for more than 25 years. He specializes in taxation and has published articles in The Tax Adviser, The CPA Journal, Advances in Taxation and Journal of Financial Service Professionals.

John Tarwater, Ph.D., CPA, assistant professor of business
Tarwater earned his doctoral degree in theology and ethics from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is currently ABD for his second doctoral degree in finance from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Formerly, Tarwater served as CFO and vice president of administration for Rio Grande Bible Seminary.


Communication

Andrew Harris, Ph.D., assistant professor of communication
Harris earned his Ph.D. in communication from Regent University. He has spent over a decade in the field of Christian higher education and has taught a little bit of everything across the communication disciplines, from acting and performance to theory and research methods.


Engineering and Computer Science

Danielle Fredette, Ph.D., assistant professor of electrical engineering
Fredette recently finished her doctoral degree at The Ohio State University, where she also received her M.S. in electrical and computer engineering. She graduated from Cedarville University with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering.


English, Literature and Modern Languages

Merideth Hoagland, Ph.D., assistant professor of linguistics
Hoagland earned her Ph.D. in applied linguistics from Georgia State University. She has taught English to speakers of other languages since 2003, most recently at Georgia State, where she also taught undergraduate composition and linguistics.


Library Services

Kirsten Setzkorn, M.L.I.S., humanities librarian
Setzkorn recently received her master's degree in library and information science from Kent State University. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in history from Cedarville in 2013. Prior to her position as humanities librarian, she served as a digital services specialist in Cedarville's Centennial Library.


Music and Worship

K. Jason French, M.A., assistant professor of worship
French is completing his doctorate in Christian worship at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served at a number of churches for the past 20 years as a pastor and elder.

Chet Jenkins, M.M., assistant professor of music - director of bands
Jenkins will complete his D.M.A. in instrumental performance at The Ohio State University this year. Jenkins has taught at Cedarville as an adjunct since 2000.


Science and Mathematics

Sharon Cooper, Ph.D., assistant professor of biology
Cooper recently completed her doctorate at The Ohio State University in molecular, cellular and developmental biology. She graduated from Cedarville in 2010 with a B.S. in molecular and cellular biology.


Pharmacy

David Peters, Pharm.D., assistant professor of pharmacy practice
Peters earned his Pharm.D. from Ohio Northern University. He previously trained as a pharmacy practice resident at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with emphasis on critical care and teaching.

Bethany Sibbit, Pharm.D., assistant professor of pharmacy practice
Sibbitt completed her Pharm.D. at Cedarville University in 2016 as part of Cedarville’s inaugural Doctor of Pharmacy class. She also earned a B.S. in pharmaceutical sciences and in biology from Cedarville. Most recently, she completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Kettering Medical Center.

Anna Staudt, Pharm.D., instructor of pharmacy practice and community pharmacy practice research fellow
Staudt completed her Pharm.D. at Cedarville University in May 2017. She also earned her B.S. in pharmaceutical sciences from Cedarville University.
