The Federal Pell Grant is awarded to undergraduate students who have significant financial need as measured by their 2027-28 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and their calculated Student Aid Index (SAI).
For the 2027-28 School year, Pell Grant information will be available in February 2027 or soon after.
The annual awarded Pell Grant amount is determined by:
- The student's FAFSA SAI calculation
- The student being evaluated as eligible for a Pell Grant
- The University's Cost of Attendance
To be eligible for a Pell Grant, the student must meet all Pell Grant eligibility criteria, and their FAFSA results must indicate one of the following:
- Eligible for a Maximum Pell Grant
- Eligible for a Calculated Pell Grant
- Eligible for a Minimum Pell Grant
The annual Pell Grant amounts for the current 2026-27 school year are as follows for full-time TIV enrollment (12 or more credits that count toward degree completion):
- Maximum Pell Grant: $7,395
- Minimum Pell Grant: $740
- The annual amount for all Pell Grants ranges is $740–$7,395.
While Pell Grant eligibility is determined on an annual basis, the amount a student may receive each term is based, in part, on their enrollment intensity. Enrollment intensity is determined using the student's TIV-eligible credits (courses required for degree completion) as of the Term Census Date.
- 12 or more TIV-eligible credits: The student has 100% enrollment intensity and is eligible for their full Pell Grant amount for the term
- Fewer than 12 TIV-eligible credits: The student's Pell Grant for the term is adjusted based on their enrollment intensity.
Example: A student enrolled in 9 TIV-eligible credits as of the Term Census Date has a 75% enrollment intensity (9 ÷ 12 = 75%). The student's Pell Grant for the term is calculated using the 75% enrollment intensity.
