In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Cedarville University protects the privacy of student educational records and is committed to the rights of students who are attending or have attended the University. By law, students control who may access or discuss their academic and financial information regardless of the student’s age.

Through the myCU portal, students can grant two different types of permissions to parents or other authorized individuals:

  • Proxy Access – Allows an authorized individual to securely view selected financial, academic, and residence life records online, including the ability to view account activity and pay a student's bill when that permission is granted.
  • Discussion Permission – Allows designated University offices (such as Financial Aid, Cashiers Office, or Student Life) to discuss a student's records with an authorized individual after the required verification process.

Granting someone online access to your records does not automatically allow University staff to discuss those records with them, and vice versa. These permissions are managed separately so students can choose one, both, or neither.

Discussion permissions must be updated each August 1 for continued access. Proxy access is ongoing unless the student updates or removes it.

For Students

Step 1: Grant Online Proxy Access (View Records Online)

Proxy access allows a parent or other authorized individual to securely log in and view the records you choose to share.

  1. Log in to myCU.
  2. Search for and open Grant Parent Access.
  3. Add a new proxy or edit an existing person's permissions.
  4. Select the information you want them to access.
  5. Save your changes.

If you add a new proxy, an account will be created for that individual. Login credentials will be sent to the email address on file, typically within 15–20 minutes.

If the person you want to add is not listed or does not have an email address on file, update your family information in myCU before granting access. Please allow one to three business days for this account to be updated.

For detailed instructions, see the Privacy Permissions: Granted by Students (Proxy & Discussions) knowledge base article.

Step 2: Grant Discussion Permission (Speak With University Offices)

Discussion permission allows specific Cedarville University offices to discuss your records with an authorized individual.

  1. Log in to myCU.
  2. Search for and open Manage Privacy Settings (Students).
  3. Create or update your verification code word.
  4. Grant or modify discussion permissions for each authorized individual by selecting the University offices that may discuss your information with them.
  5. Save your changes.

Your authorized individual(s) must provide your verification code word when contacting University offices.

For detailed instructions, see the Privacy Permissions: Granted by Students (Proxy & Discussions) knowledge base article.
